EMDR Therapy for Anxiety, Trauma & Self-Criticism

Evidence-based online therapy for adults in Kentucky, North Carolina and Florida.

You may not look like someone who is struggling. You work. You show up. You handle what needs to be handled. People see you as capable, thoughtful, responsible, or put together. Others see your achievements and the mask you wear, never knowing how much you’re struggling.

Inside it can feel like your mind never fully shuts off.

You overthink. You replay conversations. You brace for criticism, disappointment, or rejection. You hold yourself to standards you would never expect from anyone else. Even when things are technically “fine,” your body may still feel tense, restless, or on edge.

Maybe you have done a lot of talking, thinking, journaling, analyzing, or trying to understand why you feel this way. You may already have insight.

But insight alone has not been enough to help you feel safe and accepted in your own skin.

That is where deeper trauma-informed therapy can help.

Therapist providing EMDR therapy for anxiety and trauma in North Carolina, Kentucky, and Florida

You are not falling apart but you are so tired.

Tired of being so hard on yourself.
Tired of feeling like you have to prove yourself.
Tired of overthinking things that other people seem to move past easily.
Tired of feeling anxious in your body, even when your life looks okay from the outside.
Tired of understanding the pattern but still feeling stuck in it.
Tired of never feeling seen.

Maybe you would describe it as anxiety. Maybe it feels more like perfectionism, people-pleasing, self-doubt, or never feeling good enough. Maybe you know your past still affects you, but you are not sure what to do with that.

You do not have to keep managing everything by pushing through.

Therapy can help you work with the deeper patterns underneath the anxiety, self-criticism, trauma responses, and exhaustion.

Therapy for people who are tired of holding it all together

You’re in the right place if:

  • You feel responsible for other people’s emotions

  • You replay conversations and pick apart what you said

  • You struggle to relax without feeling guilty

  • You are hard on yourself over small mistakes

  • You feel like you should be “over it” by now

  • You understand your patterns, but still cannot seem to change them

  • You feel anxious, tense, or on edge even when nothing is obviously wrong

  • You have a hard time trusting yourself

  • You feel like you are never doing enough

  • You are tired of therapy that only teaches coping skills

  • You want to work on the root of the problem, not just manage symptoms

This work is for adults who want meaningful, lasting change. Not just more insight. Not just another list of coping strategies.

How EMDR therapy can help:

EMDR therapy can be helpful when anxiety, self-criticism, perfectionism, or emotional overwhelm are connected to past experiences, painful memories, long-standing stress, or negative beliefs about yourself.

Sometimes your brain understands that you are safe now, but your body still reacts as if you are not.

You may know you are allowed to make mistakes, but still feel crushed when you do.

You may know you are capable, but still feel like an imposter.

You may know someone cares about you, but still struggle to believe it.

You may know the past is over, but still feel shaped by it.

EMDR therapy helps the brain and nervous system process experiences that may still feel emotionally “stuck.” Instead of only talking about what happened, EMDR helps target the way those experiences continue to live in your thoughts, emotions, body, and beliefs about yourself. For many clients, this work can help reduce the intensity of old triggers, quiet self-critical beliefs, and create lasting positive change.

EMDR for anxiety, trauma, and never feeling good enough:

EMDR is often associated with PTSD, but it can also be helpful for people who do not identify with having “big trauma.” Many people come to therapy because they feel anxious, self-critical, emotionally exhausted, or stuck in patterns they cannot seem to think their way out of. EMDR may help with:

  • Anxiety that feels hard to control

  • Negative beliefs that you can’t seem to rationalize with

  • Trauma and PTSD symptoms

  • Self-criticism and shame

  • Perfectionism and fear of failure

  • People-pleasing and fear of disappointing others

  • Imposter syndrome

  • Relationship wounds

  • Emotional triggers that feel bigger than the moment

  • Negative beliefs like “I’m not enough,” “I’m not safe,” or “I have to be perfect”

  • Feeling stuck in old patterns even after years of insight

The goal is not to erase your past. The goal is to help your past stop running your present.

Therapy that goes deeper than coping skills

While coping skills are useful, if you have been coping for years, you may be ready for something more.

My approach is warm, collaborative, and structured. We will not rush your system or force you into work you are not ready for. At the same time, therapy here is intentional. We are not just circling the same patterns week after week without direction. Together, we may explore how anxiety, trauma, family dynamics, past criticism, relationship wounds, chronic stress, or years of being “the responsible one” shaped the way you relate to yourself and the world. Then we work toward helping your nervous system respond differently.

The goal is to help you feel more grounded, more present, and more at home with yourself.
